Patty Duke
The award-winning actress and star of the 1960s “The Patty Duke Show” admitted to attempting suicide “upwards of five” times before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and getting help.
“I came to understand that those attempts were not so much that I wanted to be dead, but that I wanted to be out of pain,” Duke said in an interview with Everyday Health. “It’s so funny that I should have attempted suicide at all, because I had a lifelong, daily phobia about death.”
