Scam Alert! Don’t Drink the Snake Oil Drew Johnson is Peddling

Look, I know some of you are still on the Drew Johnson for Treasurer bandwagon. And I get it. He had me fooled when he first blew into town, too.

Give him credit. He talks a good game.

Actually, he talks a GREAT game. To hear him tell it, he’s the greatest thing since the greatest thing before sliced bread.

As I noted on X a few weeks ago – which sent him into an apoplectic rage – I’m surprised he doesn’t take credit for the sun coming up over Sunrise Mountain every morning.

But aside from that – and running for an office that he has absolutely no qualifications whatsoever for – the guy is as shifty as a used-car salesman on commission day.

First, I caught him trying to deny that he supports Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) even though he wrote an entire column promoting it a couple years ago. (click here)

Then there’s a report that he took a $15,000 Paycheck Protection Program loan claiming business hardship despite working for a nonprofit whose revenue increased substantially during the pandemic. (click here)

And on Monday, I reported on a new FEC complaint filed against him that blows the whistle on what certainly looks like some pretty shady financing of his failed congressional campaign last cycle. (click here)

Now, for a little historical perspective, he first ran in Nevada for a local county commission race in 2022. And lost.

That, of course, “proved” he was ready for bigger and better things. So he ran for a congressional seat in 2024. And lost.

And that, naturally, means he’s a campaign colossus with the chops for a statewide race this year.

To hear him tell it, he’d be the best keeper of taxpayer dollars since Alexander Hamilton!

But a funny thing happened on the way to the coronation. Drew was forced to report his contributions and expenses this week.

He can run. But he can’t hide from reality or embarrassment. Get this…

If Drew has reported accurately – and based on past experience, that’s an open question – he only raised $7,679 (not counting in-kind donations) this year for his race.

A STATEWIDE race.

Heck, that would be considered lame for a State Assembly race.

And he only has $31,865 cash on hand. Yet we’re supposed to take his candidacy for this seat seriously?

Especially when you compare that to his primary opponent, Jeff Carter – who only entered the race in January, and actually has major qualifications for the position.

Carter reported raising $222,891 and has $192,114 cash-on-hand.

For those who have swallowed Drew’s Kool-Aid and still think he’s the bee’s knees, you’re being conned.

It’s not your fault. It’s his. He’s selling you snake-oil, and he’s very good at it.

But his day of reckoning is coming. Don’t be the last to jump off his sinking ship.
