Nevada GOP Establishment: Bring Us the Head of Sigal Chattah! – Part II

(Chuck Muth) – In Part I of this series I recounted a number of examples in past elections over the years where establishment Republicans knee-capped conservative candidates to keep them out of office – even if it meant electing Democrats.

In this second part I discuss history repeating itself here in Nevada this cycle.

For over a year now, conservative, Israeli-born, firebrand attorney Sigal Chattah (disclaimer: a new client) has been the only GOP candidate in the race for attorney general against incumbent Democrat and systemic race-hustler Aaron Ford.

Chattah has been a major thorn in the side of Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, successfully suing him and Ford over COVID-related mandates and executive orders.  She’s also been campaigning aggressively all over the state and has raised a significant amount of money – over a half-million dollars – for her challenge.

And then a couple weeks ago a certain trans-Republican blogger (Democrat who “identified” as a Republican) did his “turd in the punchbowl” imitation.  If you missed it, you can read all about it by clicking here.

In short, the trans-Republican blogger leaked some private text messages, including, according to a story in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, one in which Sigal…

“…excoriated her potential Democratic opponent in the race, incumbent Aaron Ford, tossing out one of her signature insults, invoking a Middle Eastern curse from her Israeli background that references a particularly gruesome way to die.”

The well-worn Middle Eastern phrase that the “Republican attorney general candidate with a penchant for blunt, salty language” used was: “hang him from a crane.”

This, of course, resulted in the inevitable claims that Sigal was a “racist” – the default, go-to attack by the left when they have nothing else to go with.  Indeed, the true definition of “racist” in this political environment is:  Any conservative winning an argument against a liberal.

But if Sigal is a “racist,” she sure has a funny way of showing it.

When I went by her office a couple weeks ago to pick up some documents, I was greeted by her executive assistant who’s been with Sigal for over five years now.  Get this: She’s BLACK!

Go figure.  Worst…racist…ever.

Anyway, the RJ story went on to note that the trans-Republican blogger himself…

“…doesn’t think Chattah is a racist, or that she made the remark intentionally in a racial context. She acknowledges that she posted the exchange to fatally wound Chattah’s candidacy at a time when Chattah was the only announced Republican in the race.”

In addition, the trans-Republican blogger also “confirmed what Chattah herself said this week when questioned about making the remark: Chattah uses the expression a lot.”

“When I say to my friends, ‘I’m going to hang you from a crane,’ I don’t literally mean I’m going to hang you from a crane,” Chattah said in her interview with the RJ. “That is my culture.  That’s what is done to people in the Middle East, to traitors. And that’s just part of my vernacular.”

Sigal added that the release of the private text message was an act of “revenge” by the jilted trans-Republican blogger, who waited to drop his bombshell on “Martin Luther King Jr. Day to try to do the maximum amount of damage and to paint me as a racist.”

So this whole “racist” attack is pure bullshevik.  But the GOP establishment in Nevada – which desperately wants to keep Sigal from landing the nomination – smelled blood in the water.

That “establishment” consists of a number of former political consultants, financial backers and Never Trumpers who gave us Brian Sandoval, Dean Heller and “Tax Hike Mike” Roberson.

The same people who helped re-elect Harry Reid in 2010 and helped cost Donald Trump Nevada in 2020.

I’d like to say these folks – as has happened in the past when a conservative said something controversial – panicked at the release of the trans-Republican blogger’s leaked texts.  But that wouldn’t be exactly accurate.

You see, they’d been looking for a candidate to throw into the GOP primary against Sigal for months.  In fact, they tried to recruit the wife of a prominent Republican official before Christmas but were ultimately rebuffed.

So the establishment wasn’t panicking.  Rather, they saw the manufactured “crane” brouhaha as a golden opportunity to finally tempt one of their own into the race – using the usual claim that Sigal “can’t win” the general election.

Well, lo and behold…they found a patsy.  And, hoo-boy, what a doozy!  Which I’ll detail in Part III of this series in the next Muth’s Truths.

Stay tuned, Batfans…
