Muth’s Truths: May 19, 2017

Did Gov. Sandoval Order the “Code Red” on Adam Laxalt?

The Democrats’ Grand Inquisition of Nevada Attorney General, and likely GOP gubernatorial candidate, Adam Laxalt over “The Burnett Tape” nevertheless revealed some interesting information – at least as it pertains to how the existence of the recordings got leaked in the first place.

As you’ll recall, Gaming Control Board Chairman A.G. Burnett secretly recorded a conversation he had with Laxalt at a Reno coffee shop in March 2016 related to a pending court case involving a Las Vegas gaming company.

That recording was subsequently sent to the FBI – which ultimately concluded that Laxalt hadn’t said or done anything wrong.

And that was the end of it. Case closed.

Until this February when the existence of the recorded conversation was leaked to liberal “fake news” blogger Jon Ralston, who saw the story as his Woodward-and-Bernstein moment.  Sputtering Jon surely envisioned Laxalt doing the “perp walk” in one of his silly dream sequences.

Anyway, at the legislative hearing on the matter Wednesday night Sen. Ben Kieckhefer asked Burnett if he knew how the tape’s existence had been leaked.

“I have no idea to this day how it got out,” Burnett replied. “Neither I nor the GCB were pushing this story. We haven’t leaked this story to the press and don’t want it to continue.”

And you know what?  I believe him.

Had Burnett or anyone else in the GCB wanted to, they could have and likely would have leaked it a lot earlier.

So if not them, who?

P.S.  Republican Nevada State Treasurer Dan Schwartz teamed up with legislative Democrats by throwing Republican Attorney General Adam Laxalt under the bus in an interview with Ray Hagar on Nevada Newsmakers on Wednesday.

Apparently reading from Assembly-Waitress Maggie Carlton’s playbook, Schwartz said…

“It is a matter of huge concern when the head law-enforcement officer in the state goes hat-in-hand to the gaming board commissioner and asks him to interfere in a lawsuit.”

Of course, we now know that’s not what happened at all.  But since Schwartz wants to run against Laxalt in the GOP primary for governor next year, he apparently sees this as a self-serving opportunity, truth be damned.

Yeah, that’s gonna play REAL well with conservative Republican primary voters.

NEVADA NEWS & VIEWS

The Art of the Steal:  On July 22, 2016 – ten months ago – Republican Assemblyman John Ellison submitted a BDR (Bill Draft Request) which “Provides for additional penalties for crimes committed against law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel under certain circumstances.”

On January 27, 2017, Ellison’s “Blue Lives Matter” bill (AB 88) was introduced in the Nevada State Assembly.

On April 14, 2017 Democrats in the Assembly killed Ellison’s bill.

On May 18, 2017 Democrat Senate Majority Leader Aaron Ford and twelve fellow shameless Democrats “stole” Ellison’s bill and introduced an “emergency” version of it (SB 541) without even the courtesy of inviting Ellison to co-sponsor it.

Ford is expected to run for attorney general in 2018.  If so, his campaign slogan should be, “It Takes a Thief.”

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Republicans in general – not just Trump – are at a crossroads.  And if they don’t get their act together, Pelosi is going to become speaker, and she’s going to impeach Trump.  That’s how big the stakes are.” – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich

“The reason they’re having a tough time in the White House is that they keep kidding themselves about their environment they’re working in.  If you’re surrounded by lions and hyenas, feeding them just increases their hunger.” –Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich urging President Trump to cancel the daily White House press briefings
