Y’All Know There’s Another Election on Wednesday – a Critical One – Right?

(Chuck Muth) – After Donald Trump won in 2016, Democrats immediately came after him with a vengeance.  But his real problem was in dealing with a Republican majority in the Senate – including Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Jeff Flake – which refused to back him up.

Is it gonna be déjà vu all over again?

On Wednesday Republican senators will elect a new Senate Majority Leader to replace McConnell.  And it’s ugly.  Republicans never blow an opportunity to blow an opportunity.

Tucker Carlson wrote over the weekend…

“What the hell is going on in the U.S. Senate?  Hours after Donald Trump wins the most conclusive mandate in 40 years, Mitch McConnell engineers a coup against his agenda by calling early leadership elections in the Senate. Two of the three candidates hate Trump and what he ran on. … Don’t let McConnell get away with it again.”

There are three announced candidates for the position: Sen. John Cornyn, Sen. John Thune, and Sen. Rick Scott.  The next leader needs to get 27 votes in the caucus, which will be via secret ballot.  Leading Rogan O’Handley, a staunch Trump supporter, to write on X

“Absolutely disgraceful that our US Senate is considering a SECRET vote for GOP leader. Our cops have to wear body cameras but our US SENATORS take SECRET votes?!  No.  This is how tyranny is facilitated, not freedom.”

Added conservative podcaster Monica Crowley…

“We did not give President Trump & America First A LANDSLIDE MANDATE only to have the Senate GOP be controlled by establishment tools.  Call your Senators & politely demand an OPEN BALLOT for the leadership vote.  And tell them we want Senator Rick Scott.”

Recently released political prisoner Steve Bannon also fired a shot off across their bow…

“Let me tell the Senate and let me tell their staff: Even if you don’t agree to a PUBLIC vote, we’re gonna get it leaked. You are not going to be able to hide from this vote.”

MAGA and conservatives have lined up behind Scott, who, according to the conservative Heritage Foundation, has a lifetime conservative voting record of 95 percent, compared to Cornyn’s 64 percent and Thune’s 62 percent.

Amy Kremer, Republican National Committeewoman for Georgia, notes that Thune has been in the DC swamp for 27 years, Cornyn for 22 years, and Scott for just 6 years.

Among the knocks against Thune and/or Cornyn across social media over the past couple of days…

  • Both throwing the J6 protestors under the bus
  • Thune warned Trump to stay out of the SML race
  • Cornyn throwing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton under the bus
  • Cornyn getting booed at GOP convention for supporting a gun control measure
  • Cornyn sharing an article on Twitter/X that called Trump an “embarrassment”
  • Thune on video saying: “If you look at the record, in 2018, 2020, and 2022, when he’s the issue, we lose. … And I think the way that you do that is you get a different nominee, which is why I endorsed somebody else.”
  • Cornyn saying: “I think President Trump’s time has passed him by. … I don’t think President Trump understands that when you run in a general election, you have to appeal to voters beyond your base.”
  • Thune and Cornyn going on network TV to trash Trump after the E. Jean Carrol verdict.
  • Thune on whether he would support Trump running for President: “I’m hoping we get other options.”
  • Cornyn on Twitter in 2016: “I am disgusted by Mr Trump’s words about women: our daughters, sisters and mothers.”
  • Thune during 2016 GOP prez primary: “Donald Trump should withdraw and Mike Pence should be our nominee effective immediately.”

The backlash against McConnell’s backstabbing of Trump and conservative Senate candidates has been fierce.  Benny Johnson reported that one “prominent” Senator told him

“Thune and Cornyn have been trained like dogs by McConnell. They’ll do as they’re told and come when called. McConnell will still be in charge with them. Scott is the only option.”

And author/journalist Mollie Hemingway tweeted

“Kind of crazy that Mitch McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund gave millions to Larry Hogan (?) and a whopping $33M to Mike Rogers’ failed race in Michigan and $0 to Kari Lake, who is keeping it close in AZ. Second cycle in a row of sabotaging GOP Senate candidates in AZ.”

In a statement yesterday, Sen. Scott wrote…

“We need a Senate Majority Leader who will make reducing our debt a top priority. That means NO more trillion-dollar omnibus packages full of wasteful spending. I got our budget under control as Florida’s Governor, I’ll do it as Majority Leader.”

His supporters include: J.D. Vance, Elon Musk, Tucker Carlson, RFK Jr., Vivek Ramaswamy, Charlie Kirk, Sen. Rand Paul, Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Tommy Tuberville, and Sen. Mike Lee.

Other notable conservative leaders who drafted a letter supporting Scott include Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party Patriots, David Bossie of Citizens United, Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center, Jim DeMint of the Conservative Partnership Institute, Lisa Nelson of ALEC, and Bob Carlstrom of AMAC Action.

Sen. Tuberville wrote on X yesterday…

“The nation delivered a mandate on Tuesday. They want @realdonaldtrump’s America First agenda, and they want it now. Senator Rick Scott represents millions of Americans from Alabama to California who voted for a unified Republican government.”

Senators who are suspected of backing Thune or Cornyn are now catching hell from across the country and whining that they’re being “bullied” into voting for Scott.  Responded Rep. Anna Paulina Luna…

“Imagine being a sitting Senator and saying you’re being ‘bullied’ because voters are telling you how they want you to vote. Maybe you should listen???”

Cleta Mitchell of the Election Integrity Network (EIN) added: “The voters have a stake in this.”

YES!  Yes, we do!

And here’s a list of GOP U.S. Senators and who they are believed to initially be supporting.  I don’t care if their feelings are being hurt or they think they’re being bullied. WE have more of a stake in this than they do.
