What You Can Do to Stop the Looming GOP Civil War

(Chuck Muth) – A few thoughts before I head for the airport and back to the barn…

Yes, Donald Trump has a very strong following among Republicans.  Yes, he’s the front-runner.  Yes, if the election were held today, he’d likely be the nominee.

But no, the primary isn’t over.

Still four months to go before voting even begins.  And anyone who says they *know* what’s going to happen over the next four months doesn’t know politics.

Biden is hurting badly among Democrats.

What if Sen. Diane Feinstein steps down?

And what if California Gov. Gavin Newsom appoints Vice President Kamala Harris to take her seat and then gets tapped to replace The Cackler as vice president?

And what if Biden suddenly changes his mind and doesn’t run for re-election for “health” or “family” reasons and Newsom becomes the Democrat nominee?

Longshot? Sure. Out of the question? Absolutely not.

Remember, Democrats are nothing if not obsessively focused on winning at any and all costs.

If Trump is the nominee, he’s gonna need the DeSantis, Haley, Pence, et. al., Republican voters that his camp has been slicing and dicing as “RINOs” and worse.

If Trump is not the nominee, then whoever is the nominee will need Trump’s loyalists no matter who the Dems put up, including Biden.

There are conservatives in Trump’s camp.

There are conservatives in DeSantis’ camp.

There are conservatives in the camps of the other GOP candidates.

Conservatives need to agree to disagree without going “scorched earth” on each other.

We all have far more in common with each other than we do with the Democrats – and we’ve certainly seen first-hand what they’ll do if they get another four years in the White House.

It’s not hyperbolic to suggest the republic might not survive.  We’re hanging by a thread as it is right now.

Indeed, the 2024 election isn’t just about who sits in the Oval Office.  It’s who the president appoints to all the various positions of power in the national government.

Like Attorney General Merrick Garland and his weaponized Department of Justice.

Like Homeland Security Director Alejandro Mayorkas and his open borders.

Like Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his appeasement policies.

And if a political civil war erupts among Republicans over the presidential nominee – like what happened in ‘64 when Goldwater won the GOP nomination – there’s a good chance Republicans will fail to take back the Senate and lose the House.

And if butt-hurt Republicans in Nevada stay home – like some 175,000+ did last year – odds are Nevada Democrats will attain a super-majority in both the State Senate and State Assembly.

And Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo will essentially be a lame duck for the 2025 session of the Nevada Legislature.

Do any of you supporting different GOP presidential candidates right now want that?!!

Trump supporters aren’t evil.  DeSantis supporters aren’t evil.  Haley supporters aren’t evil.  Pence supporters aren’t evil.  Vivek supporters aren’t evil.  Ditto supporters of the other GOP candidates.

What’s evil is what the Biden administration – from top to bottom – is doing to our country.  Stopping that cold in its tracks MUST be the ultimate objective.  Anything else is political suicide.

So before you send that hateful email or post that personally insulting tweet calling a fellow conservative a dirty, rotten scoundrel simply because they’re not currently supporting the same GOP candidate that you are…STOP.

Advocate for your candidate – strongly and passionately – without engaging in Hatfield & McCoy hatred.

Keep your eyes on the prize.

Just win, baby.
