The Senate Campaign Launched by a B-2 Stealth Bomber

(Chuck Muth) – A few years ago, I attended a very special air show at Nellis Air Force Base.  What made it so special was that it included a rare fly-over by a B-2 Stealth bomber.

Freaking…WOW!

Look, I’m an F-22 Raptor kinda guy.  I’m in love with that plane and what it can do. Could watch it for hours on end.  And, of course, the Thunderbirds.  Totally awesome.

But nothing sent a tingle up my spine like seeing that B-2 Stealth “bat plane” flying towards us from way out on the horizon, getting larger and larger as it approached, and feeling its power as it buzzed the tower that day.

And I wasn’t alone.  The flyover was definitely a huge crowd-pleaser.  Just as it was the first time the B-2 Stealth appeared in public in 1997 when it buzzed the Rose Bowl Parade in California.

After that flyover, one TV reporter made it his mission and New Year’s resolution to find a B-2 and do a report on it.  Which he did.  You can dial it up by clicking here.

Now, the reason I bring this up…

Hold on.  Lemme get a disclaimer out of the way…

I have NOT picked a favorite candidate in Nevada’s upcoming U.S. Senate race yet, and none of the eight announced GOP candidates are clients of mine.

I endorsed Sam Brown for this office in the 2022 GOP primary but, as I’ve written previously, I have some serious concerns about how he’s running his campaign so far this time around.

This race is, and MUST be, about WINNING next year. And as I teach candidates in my training classes, it’s not the best candidate who wins, it’s the best CAMPAIGN.

That said, I got to meet and get to know Tony Grady – who ran for lieutenant governor and came in a close second in the primary – during his campaign last year and, well, you just can’t help but like the guy.

Tony’s also running for U.S. Senate next year.  But for now, I’m still an undecided voter in this race.

That said, the reporter’s B-2 Stealth documentary included an extensive interview with Tony – who was a B-2 test pilot at the time – which begins around the 36-minute mark (but definitely watch the first five minutes of the parade footage).

Tony gave a great interview and tour of the B-2.  And at one point late in the interview he gave what today would be called a “politically correct” answer to a question.  To which the reporter joked…

“Are you gonna run for office when you get out of the Air Force?”

Tony demurred.  But here he is more than 25 years later putting his name on the ballot for the second time.

“Colonel Grady, you’re cleared for takeoff on runway Two-Zero-Two-Four.”

Again, I have nothing against Sam.  I wrote extensively in favor of his candidacy during last year’s primary.  And if he’s the GOP nominee, I’ll absolutely vote for him without hesitation over Democrat incumbent Sen. “Wacky” Jacky Rosen.

But some folks think the primary is over since Sam’s been endorsed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) in DC.  I think that’s a bit premature.

Tony and Sam have great personal stories and qualifications.  And voters should hear about both before making up their minds. Either would be FAR better – and have a MUCH better chance to win – than one of the other leading Republicans in the race, Jim Marchant.

In addition, Dr. Jeff Gunter – a former Ambassador to Iceland under Trump – also jumped into the Senate race last week.  He’s got street cred, political experience, and his own story to tell.  I’m scheduled to meet with him next week.

I’ll keep you posted as I learn more.  In the meantime, if you EVER somehow get an opportunity to see a B-2 Stealth bomber do a flyover…take it!  It’s one of the most awesome sights you’ll ever see.

Bombs away!

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Those who fought for freedom have something the protected never know. And that kind of integrity is what we need in politics, because it’s lacking.” – Tony Grady
