The Chattah Box: Angry Woman Weaned on a Pickle Lashes Out Again

(Chuck Muth) – Nevada GOP leaders are in a quandary about what to do with their new Republican National Committeewoman, Sigal Chattah.  They don’t know whether to stage an intervention or call Father Damien and schedule an exorcism.

Chattah ratcheted up her one-woman jihad against Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo again yesterday; this time using the party’s official email account to publish her latest fatwa.

In the ghost-written rant – and I say it must have been ghost-written because the words were spelled correctly and it had punctuation marks – Chattah bemoans “ad hominem,” “histrionic,” and “meritless systemic degradation” attacks leveled against her recently.

Gee, I wonder who she could be talking about?

“(T)he character assassinations that I’ve had to deal with,” she whinnies, “calling me hysterical, unhinged, deranged and stupid, are precisely the elements of institutionalized sexism that the Nevada GOP will not tolerate lodged at anyone within our party.”

Playing the “gender card,” Sigal? Seriously? What a snowflake.

Am I not supposed to call out your stupidity simply because you’re a woman?  Isn’t that the very definition of “sexism;” treating someone differently because of their gender?

Onward…

“Our job at the NVGOP is to elect more Republicans,” she droned on, “and to do that we have to hold elected officials accountable.”

She’s talking about all the cheap shots she’s been taking at Lombardo during the just-concluded 2023 legislative session.

“When they (meaning me) call Republican leaders who are fighting to make our schools safe and high-achieving – hysterical, stupid, deranged – they are also calling you, the voter those names.”

Of course, that’s not what we’re talking about at all.

At issue is the controversial sex-change bill that most on the right disagreed with.  Nice try at deflection by misleading folks into thinking this is about safe, high-achieving schools, but that dog won’t hunt.

And no, I’m not calling others – who, like me, opposed the bill – hysterical, stupid, and deranged.  Only Chattah – a top party leader – who’s been acting hysterical, stupid, and deranged. For example…

In her latest fatwa, Chattah attacks Lombardo – by reference, not by name – for supposedly violating the Nevada Republican Party platform and links to the platform to make her case.

“This platform,” she babbles on, “is what every elected Republican swore an oath to uphold when they ran for office.”

Um, no.

I’ve suggested to candidates in the past that they print out a copy of the platform and sign it; attesting that they agree with it and will abide by it.  Almost none ever do.

In fact, the only “oath” candidates swear to uphold is the oath of office which reads…

“I, ________[NAME OF PERSON]_______, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, protect and defend the Constitution and Government of the United States and the Constitution and Government of the State of Nevada against all enemies, whether domestic or foreign, and that I will bear true faith, allegiance and loyalty to the same, any ordinance, resolution or law of any state notwithstanding, and that I will well and faithfully perform all the duties of the office of ________[TITLE OF OFFICE]_______, on which I am about to enter; (if an oath) so help me God; (if an affirmation) under the pains and penalties of perjury.”

Nothing in there about the party platform whatsoever.  Sorry, Sigal.  I thought, as a lawyer, you’d know that.

Now, if Chattah was an average voter attacking Lombardo, that’d be one thing.  And using her personal Twitter account to do so is another thing.

But now she’s spewed her venom using the Nevada GOP’s official email list, which she’s allowed to do as the National Committeewoman.  And that makes her “hysterical, stupid and deranged” rants an official position of every Republican voter in the state.

Including her mind-numbing criticism of the 200,000+ Nevadans who turned out last weekend on the Strip to celebrate the Golden Knights winning the Stanley Cup.

You can’t fix stupid.

It’s reckless and irresponsible and will be used against every GOP candidate on the ballot next year.  And responsible party leaders know it.

Worse, she’s using her national position to slash-and-burn Lombardo and other elected Republicans in national media and inside the RNC without the expressed approval of the party’s Central Committee through an officially-approved resolution or proclamation.

But since Chattah was (foolishly) elected to the position, other party leaders are in a bind.  How do they try to put a sock in the big mouth of someone clearly hysterical, stupid, and deranged without inviting the same vitriol on themselves?

In fact, I spoke with a longtime member of the Nevada GOP Central Committee last night who confirmed the concern among members.

Chattah’s clearly out of control and off her rocker, but there’s nothing Chairman Michael McDonald or the Central Committee can do to get her to shut up without triggering a major, and public, intra-party civil war.

She’s supposedly been told to knock it off privately, but she’s just ignored them.

The ironic thing is, Chattah also supposedly hates the job and is lousy at it.  The #1 duty of the committeewoman is to raise money for the party, and she’s been a miserable failure.

But she loves the power, the limelight, and the attention.  So it’s all about her, not the party.

If only the members of the Central Committee had elected Pauline Lee – a dignified, intelligent woman with proven fundraising abilities – last January instead of locking themselves in a phone booth with this enraged ferret.

So, sorry Nevada Republicans.  Your elected Central Committee members created this monster and now it’s unleashed, terrorizing elected Republicans and scaring small children and animals.

Unless she’s pressured to quit, you’re stuck with her at least until she’s up for election again next spring.  But by then, the damage will already be done.

And once again, Republicans never blow an opportunity to blow an opportunity.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“I’ve never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.” – Joe Biden, 2019

“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.  Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight.  And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.” – Hunter Biden to Chinese business associate, July 2017

“A bank account linked to President Biden’s son Hunter Biden received more than $5 million in August 2017, shortly after his threatening messages – in which he said he was ‘sitting here’ with his father – to a Chinese associate revealed this week by an IRS whistleblower, according to documents released by congressional investigators.” – FOX News, 6/23/23
