Taking the T.E.A. Out of Tea Party

I continue to be harassed by a handful of tea party activists who are actively tilting windmills for the Chris Edwards for Congress campaign in Nevada’s 1st congressional district over my reminding people that Edwards is the only non-Democrat candidate running for a federal office in Nevada this year who has refused to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

With all due respect, guys, your anger and frustration is misdirected.

Remember the genesis of the tea party movement. “Tea” is actually an acronym for “Taxed Enough Already.” If Mr. Edwards – unlike almost every other Republican congressional candidate in the country today – is unwilling to sign the Tax Pledge committing to solving our spending problem with spending cuts instead of tax hikes, why are you supporting him?

Sen. Dean Heller is in a tough race. Sen. Heller has signed the Pledge. Help him. Rep. Joe Heck is in a tough race. Rep. Heck has signed the Pledge. Help him. Danny Tarkanian is in a tough but doable race. And Danny has signed the Pledge. Help him.

We, as Americans and Nevadans, are taxed enough already. Period. And if Mr. Edwards doesn’t understand and acknowledge that reality, he’s the problem…not the guy pointing out that the emperor has no clothes.

Oh, and by the way: Both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have signed the Pledge. Are we really to believe that first-time novice candidate Edwards is somehow wiser and smarter about this issue than the GOP’s presidential and vice presidential nominees?
