Legislators were unable to come to a “consensus” Monday on exactly how irresponsible to be in adding spending back into Gov. Gibbons’ budget without having the money to pay for it.
According to David McGrath Schwartz of the Las Vegas Sun, Senate Republicans refused to go below a 13 percent cut to higher education in order “to avoid increasing the size of a tax increase.” According to Schwartz’s sources, “The highest tax increase (the Republicans) could support is about $800 million.”
Added to the $232 million room tax the Legislature already approved earlier this session, that would be a tax hike of over a billion dollars – shattering the current largest tax hike in history record of $836 million.
And Republicans are SUPPORTING that? Good grief.
