Nothing Like a Little Politics on Independence Day, Right?

(Chuck Muth) – Words mean stuff.

Just as it’s “Merry Christmas” and not “Happy Holidays” – and we’re a “republic,” not a “democracy” – today we celebrate “Independence Day,” not the “Fourth of July.”

Some presidential candidates on Twitter get it…

  • “Happy Independence Day!” – Ron DeSantis

  • “Happy Independence Day, America! – Mike Pence

Others apparently didn’t the memo…

  • “As we celebrate our nation this Fourth of July…” – Joe Biden
  • “Happy FOURTH OF JULY to everyone.” – Donald Trump
  • “Happy 4th of July.” – Nikki Haley
  • “Happy Fourth of July!” – Vivek Ramaswamy
  • “As we celebrate this #FourthofJuly…” – Doug Burgum

While Sen. Tim Scott had it both ways…

  • “This Independence Day, I want to hear from you. … From faith to the 4th of July, send me your questions.”

Regardless, Happy Independence Day!

Though there’s not really much to celebrate this year.  Under Joe Biden, more and more Americans are becoming DEPENDENT on government.  Our Founders are rolling in their graves.

Authoritarian executive orders, speech censorship, wide open borders, foreign entanglements in war, political prosecutions, gun rights restrictions, warrantless searches…you name it.

Biden’s government has been far busier trying to reform America than Americans trying to reform government.  But there is a silver lining…

The U.S. Supreme Court now has a conservative, originalist majority that is undoing 50+ years of judicial activism on the federal bench.

It’s returned the abortion issue to the states, struck down affirmative action, told biz owners they don’t have to bake gay wedding cakes or build gay wedding websites, and killed Biden’s student debt executive order.

So there’s still hope.

Fire up the grill!  Launch those fireworks!  As John Adams put it…

“I am apt to believe that it (Independence Day) will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

What he said.  In other news…

With some seven months to go before the first ballots are cast for the next president of the United States, I received my first political mailer yesterday from AFP Action. Seems a bit early, but if you have the money…

The interesting thing about the mailer is that it doesn’t advocate FOR any particular candidate, but against two of them.

“America’s best days could be ahead,” the front of the mailer reads.  “But not if these are our only choices.”

The back panel features two photos of Donald Trump and Joe Biden, seemingly staring at each other, with the tagline: “Joe Biden will defeat Donald Trump if he is the GOP nominee.”

Game on.

Meanwhile, down in Mexico…

President Andres Obrador jumped into the U.S. presidential election and “called on U.S. citizens not to vote for Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis because of his state’s enactment of a tough immigration bill.”

Under the new Florida law, “employers who hire immigrants who are in the country illegally will face tough punishments.”

I guess the Mexican president believes DeSantis actually meant it when he said…

“All options are on the table to defend the American people… If you’re cutting through a border wall on sovereign U.S. territory, and you’re trying to poison Americans, you’re gonna end up STONE COLD DEAD.”

Something tells me Obrador’s foreign interference in our election is going to have the opposite effect from what he intended.

Again, Happy Independence Day!

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Every 19–22-year-old should pay for their own tuition by working 20 hours a week while in college – as kids do at the College of the Ozarks where tuition is free. If kids are working to earn their college education, they will value it more and they will demand value.” – Stephen Moore, Committee to Unleash Prosperity
