Lombardo Declares War on Democrats Infected with Teachers Union Rabies

(Chuck Muth) – After Old Yeller was bitten by a rabid wolf that was threatening the family that had adopted him, the dog, too, became infected with rabies and had to be put down to keep him from turning on the family.

Nevada Democrats in the Legislature have been infected with a political version of lyssavirus: Teachers Union Rabies.

For years Democrats have portrayed themselves as protectors of children.  On issue after issue, they’ve rationalized their misguided policies as “for the children.”

Gun control?  For the children.  Banning gas-powered cars?  For the children.  ObamaCare?  For the children.  Open borders?  For the children.  Tax hikes?  For the children.

Abortion?

Well, the exception that proves the rule.

Anyway, the issue of school choice is a huge and growing issue, not just in Nevada, but nationally.  And if your interest is really “for the children,” you can’t possibly defend the idea of locking kids in failing public schools and not letting them out.

But that’s exactly what Nevada Democrat legislators have done this year because they’re infected with Teachers Union Rabies.

Bring up Opportunity Scholarships – which allow low-income, mostly minority students to go to the school of their choice – and Democrats such as Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannibizzaro and Assembly Speaker Steve “Donut Boy” Yeager start growling and foaming at the mouth.

You can’t talk to them. You can’t reason with them. You can’t negotiate with them.  Lord knows, Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo tried.

But every time he reached his hand across the aisle to save the scholarship program and the children who benefit from it, Cannibizzaro and Donut Boy snarled and snapped at his fingers.

There’s simply no cure for Teachers Union Rabies, which enter the body politic through the Democrats’ campaign bank accounts. There’s no vaccine and face diapers won’t help.  There’s only one way in our republic to protect these children.

Politically-speaking, they have to be put down.  And Gov. Lombardo has reluctantly come to that conclusion.

It’s an old maxim in politics: If you want to change public policy, you have to change public officials.

Rabid Democrats have a super-majority in the State Assembly and are only one seat away from attaining a super-majority in the State Senate.  And if Republicans don’t get out of the super-minority in the Assembly or stay out of the super-minority in the Senate next year, our kids are double-screwed.

Not only will infected Democrats have the 2/3 super-majority in both houses to override Lombardo’s 75 vetoes at the start of the 2025 legislative session, they’ll have the 2/3 super-majority needed to not just block additional funding for the scholarship program, but to kill it outright with a stake through its heart.

And, of course, they’ll claim it’s “for the children.”  Just not for low-income, mostly minority kids who want to get a better education in a private school they can’t afford – unlike the well-off rabid Democrats who send their own kids to private schools.

For example…

Unless I miss my guess, the grandson of Democrat State Sen. Roberta Lange – chair of the Education Committee and former head of the teachers’ union – was attending St. Viator’s Catholic School while she was rabidly fighting to cut the funding for Opportunity Scholarships and voting against Gov. Lombardo’s proposal to use unspent COVID funds to restore the cuts.

Hypocrisy writ large.

All of which led to the following exchange yesterday morning between conservative talk-show host Kevin Wall and Gov. Lombardo…

WALL: “I gotta ask you a political question because I agree with you.  The polling for school choice is unbelievable. It’s off the chart.  It’s 70-plus percent depending on which poll you look at. Will you campaign against Democrats that stood in the way of school choice…?”

LOMBARDO: “Yeah.  I’ll say it right up front.  I’m not going to mince words. That was a very detrimental decision by them and I’ll do everything in my power to prevent them from being successful in the future.”

As Wyatt Earp – played by Kurt Russel in the blockbuster movie Tombstone – famously put it…

“You called down the thunder, well, now you’ve got it! … So run, you curs! Run! Tell all the other curs the law’s coming! You tell ’em I’m coming, and Hell’s coming with me, you hear? Hell’s coming with me!”

OK, that’s not exactly Gov. Lombardo’s style.  But don’t underestimate his resolve.

Nevada Democrats have been served.  Game on.  Mount up.  We ride at dawn.

For the children.
