Left is “Fioreous” over Assemblywoman’s Campus Carry Comments

When conservative Assemblywoman Michele Fiore was quoted in the New York Times saying the best way to protect young women on campus was allowing the possibility of putting a bullet in the head of a would-be rapist, the Left had a collective hissy fit of apoplexy.

Indeed, someone over at the Progressive Liberal Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) issued a huff-and-puff statement proclaiming from their self-righteous high horse that “we can no longer brush these insensitive comments off as lunacy. We must hold her accountable…”

In case Assemblywoman Fiore is wounded by having liberals call her a lunatic (she’s not), consider these words of wisdom from the late, great Margaret Thatcher

“I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.”

Look, when it comes to liberals attacking Fiore for her comments, I’m OK with that. I mean…whatever.

Getting upset with Democrats going cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs over straight talk that isn’t politically correct is like, to borrow a phrase from Mike Ferriss, getting upset with clowns for scaring children.

“They can’t help it. It’s their nature.”

No, the real problem I have is with mamby-pamby Republicans, some of whom are Fiore’s legislative colleagues, who flee the foxhole and run for the hills at the first sign of a liberal propaganda eruption.

And in case you’re a Republican who fancies themself a conservative and wonder if the left has a point on Fiore’s comments, consider these observations by “El Rushbo” himself, Rush Limbaugh, from a transcript of Thursday’s show…

PART ONE

We have a New York Times story, they can’t believe it, they’re apoplectic. “A Bid for Guns on Campuses to Deter Rape – As gun rights advocates push to legalize firearms on college campuses, an argument is taking shape.”

And it is delectable. It’s delicious. You see, once again we’re down to what could be termed dynamic versus static scoring, the way the left looks at things.

Okay, so they’ve got this War on Women meme that’s an umbrella under which much of their political agenda is advanced every day. And one of the subsets under the umbrella is that our colleges have become cultures of rape; that rape’s everywhere out there. Even that Rolling Stone story, it might not have been right about the University of Virginia, but it didn’t matter because it’s still true in so many parts of the country.

Okay, if there’s a culture of rape out there, and if men are raping women left and right and it’s unprecedented levels, we’ve gotta do something about it. And so a gun rights group said, “Okay, let’s arm women.”

And the left said, “What are you talking about? You can’t do that.”

Well, you just said that they’re at great risk of being raped left and right. In fact, the sponsor of the bill in Nevada is an assemblywoman named Michele Fiore, and she said in a telephone interview, quote, “If these young, hot little girls on campus have a firearm, I wonder how many men will want to assault them. The sexual assaults that are occurring would go down once these sexual predators get a bullet in their head.”

Well, all of that’s true. None of that’s even arguable. But the New York Times and other leftist outlets are in shock. They’re apoplectic in reporting it.

PART TWO

As gun rights advocates push to legalize firearms on college campuses, an argument is taking shape: Arming female students will help reduce sexual assaults. This year, lawmakers in 10 states who are pushing bills that would permit the carrying of firearms on campus are hoping that the national spotlight on sexual assault will help them win passage of their measures.

“‘If you’ve got a person that’s raped because you wouldn’t let them carry a firearm to defend themselves, I think you’re responsible,’ State Representative Dennis K. Baxley of Florida said during debate in a House subcommittee last month. The bill passed.

Michele Fiore, said in a telephone interview: “If these young, hot little girls on campus have a firearm, I wonder how many men will want to assault them. The sexual assaults that are occurring would go down once these sexual predators get a bullet in their head.”

Hot little girls? This from a female assemblyman in Nevada.

See, this is great. The left tells everybody there’s a culture of rape all over the campus, all over American universities, it’s happening, it’s terrible out there. And people react to that.

“Really? It’s a culture of rape? Well, we gotta get the women guns.”

And the left, “Ah, ah, ah, ah, wait, wait, wait ah, ah, ah. We didn’t mean that.”

Well, now, wait a minute, what is it?

You have a culture of rape and you’re not allowing these women to protect themselves, or is it not that bad?

And the left can’t say, “Well, it’s not really that bad,” ’cause they’ve got too much tied up in the whole thing.

I think this is just perfect and it illustrates again how the left just does not factor the dynamic reaction to the things they say, the legislation they pass, or the things that they do.

Fiore is dead right on this issue of campus carry. And she raised it in a plain-spoken, raw manner that not only grabbed the public’s attention, but simultaneously exposed the hypocrisy of the left.

No wonder they’re Fioreous.
