Hickey: All the Wrong Moves

Last spring, political consultant Cory Christensen oversaw one of the biggest political fails I’ve ever seen in Nevada.  He was managing the Las Vegas city council race of Republican Suzette LaGrange – an extremely intelligent, articulate, personable businesswoman who raised more than enough money for this particular race.

It was a VERY low turnout election in a district Mitt Romney carried handily against the incumbent, a Democrat union boss with an extensive history of ethics complaints.  The GOP candidate from four years earlier did virtually nothing in his campaign and still pulled some 1,800 votes.

All LaGrange’s campaign needed to get was a mere 1,200 votes more votes…out of some 18,000 registered Republicans!  She didn’t need a single Democrat vote.  She didn’t need a single non-partisan vote.  Her campaign only needed to boost Republican turnout by just 1,200 votes.

And Christensen blew it.

So naturally, Assembly Minority Leader Pat Hickey, I was informed yesterday, has hired Christensen to be the Assembly Republican Caucus’ political director for the 2014 election cycle.

They’re doomed.
