The so-called “Gang of Eight” has been referred to often in this campaign season, especially among Republican presidential candidates. The Gang of Eight refers to a bi-partisan group of eight U.S. senators – 4 Democrats and 4 Republicans – who sponsored an immigration reform bill back in 2013 which critics labeled an “amnesty” bill because it provided a path to citizenship for individuals who have entered and currently live in the United States illegally.
