(Chuck Muth) – So just how lost, dazed, and confused are Democrats after the spanking they received last November at the hands of Donald Trump?
Let’s check in with Nevada Democrat Rep. Dina “I’m Not Happy” Titus.
In an op-ed published this morning in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the far-left congress-critter burps up some advice to her discombobulated House Democrat colleagues who desperately want to get back in power in the halls of Congress next year.
Rep. TaxUs scribbled…
“Democrats need a positive, cohesive, concise message. They need a universal message that broad segments of society, regardless of their background or where they live, can agree upon. We must do more than just challenge President Donald Trump.”
I hope somebody sends her column to Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford (D-EI), the San Francisco Treat, before he files his next umpteenth “lawfare” lawsuit against the Trump administration.
But get this: Titus went on to recommend that bewildered and demoralized Dems take a page from the political playbook of…Newt Gingrich!
“Back in 1994,” Titus whinnied, “House Republicans were in the same position House Democrats are now – relatively powerless because they were in the minority. That prompted Newt Gingrich to draw up what he called a ‘Contract with America.’
“It worked,” she continued. “Republicans took back the House in the 1994 midterms.”
As such, Titus proposes a “Contract for America” that “reflects our Democratic core values and what we care about.”
And that alone demonstrates the stark contrast between how Democrats and Republicans view the role of government.
Newt’s contract was *with* Americans. Titus’ is *for* Americans.
In the Gingrich/Republican eyes, elected officials are partners *with* citizens working to make life better in our country and enabling them to reach for and achieve the American dream.
In the eyes of Titus/Democrats, elected officials know what’s best for us, so they’re going to hand down from on high, Ten Commandments-like, a contract *for* Americans – whether we like it or not.
Republicans are the live-and-let-live freedom party. Democrats are nanny-staters hellbent on dictating what’s good for us because, well, they think they know better.
Now let’s get to the meat of Titus’ “contract for.” It’s nothing but the typical, non-specific, feel-good talking points. Word salad without meaning. Sound and fury, signifying nothing. To wit…
- “Every job should pay a living wage.”
OK, fine. Define “living wage.” Is it $15/hour? Is it $25/hour? Is it $100/hour?
She/they never say.
- “The tax structure should be fair.”
OK, fine. Define “fair.”
How much should every citizen pay to fund necessary and constitutional government programs and operations. Is it “tax the rich, feed the poor, until there are no rich no more”?
She/they never say.
- “Every child in the United States should have access to a quality education.”
OK, fine. Define “quality education.”
Are we talking higher SAT scores or are we talking about boosting kids’ self-esteem so they simply feel good about themselves? How about simply assuring that high school graduates can read their own diplomas?
And what about that “access” thingy? Does that include private school choice? It should since Titus’ expressed interest is in a “quality education,” which is not the same as a “quality government owned/union operated public school.”
She/they never say.
- “Every senior should be able to count on his or her full Social Security and Medicare benefits.”
OK, fine. Define “count on.” Because last time I checked the explosive growth of both government programs is driving them toward bankruptcy.
What specifically would Titus/Democrats do to keep Social Security and Medicare from going broke so Americans can “count on” them?
She/they never say.
- “Veterans should receive the benefits they earned and deserve.”
OK, fine. Define “the benefits.” What specific benefits should veterans be receiving that they’re not receiving now? And how will they be paid for?
She/they never say.
- “Every American family should have access to affordable health care.”
OK, fine. Now define “access” and “affordable.”
Because I remember being sold the snake oil known as ObamaCare under the promise that it would make health care accessible and affordable for every American – even with pre-existing conditions.
Are you saying ObamaCare is NOT accessible and affordable? If so, exactly what would you do to make it accessible and affordable and how will you pay for it?
She/they never say.
- “The federal government must have the resources necessary to protect our environment.”
OK, fine. Define “resources”?
Are you guys talking about more money (when aren’t they)? If so, how much and from whom? And what would the money be used for?
She/they never say.
- “The military must have what it needs to defend our nation.”
OK, fine. Define “what it needs”?
What specifically doesn’t our military have that it needs? How much will it cost? Who will pay for it? How?
Or by “what it needs” are you talking about taxpayer-funded abortions on military bases? Raising the rainbow flag above the American flag on military bases? Promoting officers based on gender and color, not merit?
She/they won’t say.
Don’t get me wrong. Eventually, Democrats will figure out a way to lie, cheat, and steal their way back into power – likely with a little help from Republicans who never seem to blow an opportunity to blow an opportunity.
And I get that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But Titus’ monkey-see-monkey-do “contract” schtick ain’t the answer because most American voters have caught onto the con.
It’s an old saying: How do you know when a left-wing Democrat is lying? Answer: When their lips are moving. And we won’t be fooled again. Back to the chalkboard, Dina.
