Common Sense blogger Paul Jacob reports today that there’s a far less intrusive way to make intersections safer than installing Big Brother-like red light camera: making the yellow lights longer, thus giving drivers more time to decide to stop or proceed.
Such a change wouldn’t cost anything. Simply reset the timers. But nanny-staters don’t like the idea. Why? Because it wouldn’t result in higher revenue. You see, red light cameras aren’t about safety; they’re about money. Big money. Oh, and more government control over the daily lives of America citizens.
