Closing Thoughts on SRLC & Big Easy Visit

Final dispatch from the Big Easy and the Southern Republican Leadership Conference:

Wrapped up the conference yesterday with the highlight being Ron Paul’s address. The Texas congressman still loses many national defense conservatives on some of his military views, but otherwise, he’s dead on with the others….and his supporters are, to say the least, passionate.

Combine Paul’s intellectual star power with Sarah Palin’s rock-star power, and you’ve got one heck of a powerful ticket in 2012. But which one would run for president and which one would run for vice president?

Anyway, after the conference, my 10-year-old daughter, Kristen, and I wrapped up our visit by going to the outdoor French Quarter Festival on the Riverwalk where the band’s encore – and I have NEVER seen this song done live, let alone by a jazz band with three trombones – was “Helter Skelter.” And it was GOOD!

Then, on the walk back to the hotel we ended up within spitting distance of a major crime scene (16+ cop cars, two cops on horseback, two fire engines, three ambulances, REALLY loud sirens, and lots of that yellow tape) with two guys laid out in the middle of the street – one in handcuffs, the other in a pool of his own blood. Nothing life-threatening, though.

Do I know how to show a girl a good time, or what?!!!
