Banning Domestic Partnerships Was NOT the Will of Nevadans
The following letter was emailed to GOP members of the Nevada State Assembly this morning…
The Trail of Tax Hike Tears
OK, would somebody please name one legislative candidate who ran last year on this platform: “Elect me and I’ll vote for a billion dollars worth of higher taxes.” Just one.
The $70 Million Road to Nowhere
What the “f-” is up with all the howling and yelping over the closure of F Street in Las Vegas?
Sen. Horsford: Conflicts Up the Wazoo

At the big Barack Obama and the Hollywood All-Stars fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at Caesars Palace last night, the president referred to Nevada state Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford (D-Las Vegas) as “an unbelievable warrior, an extraordinary young talent, soon to be on the national scene.”
SB 283: To Override of Sustain the Veto?
The following letter was sent this morning to each member of the Nevada Legislature…
Gen. RINO
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says he’s a good Republican; every bit as good as Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh. And as proof, I guess, Powell revealed on “Face the Nation” yesterday that in past presidential elections he voted for Democrats John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. If that’s the definition […]
Don’t Read Their Lips
“(Republican Senate Minority Leader Bill) Raggio didn’t merely consider raising taxes,” wrote Glenn Cook of the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Sunday, “he worked tirelessly to deliver the Republican votes needed to provide a constitutionally mandated two-thirds super-majority.”
Tax Pledge and Tax Sunsets
Since most of the tax hikes passed by the 2009 Legislature will expire after two years – and the federal stimulus money will be gone – we’ll be right back where we are today in 2011. And when it comes time to debate and vote on whether or not to renew this year’s billion dollar […]
The Craven, Disingenuous Republican Caucus
“For those who believe no tax increases were necessary and a billion dollars in cuts would have been preferable,” wrote Las Vegas Sun columnist Jon Ralston on Sunday, “the real travesty was the performance of many of the Legislative Building’s Republicans.”
And the Lord Said, Let There Be Tax Hikes
On Friday, the Nevada Legislature passed a cumulative billion dollar-plus tax hike on Nevada’s citizens, car owners, businesses and tourists. Senate Minority Leader Bill Raggio could have blocked the final $781 million leg of the Mother of All Tax Hikes, but he and four other “Arlen Specter Republicans” voted with the Democrats and Carson City’s […]
Stopping At Nothing
So obsessed were Democrats on passing their billion dollar tax hike in time to override Gov. Gibbons’ promised veto that Speaker Barbara Buckley began debate on the final $781 million leg of the bill….before the bill even arrived in her chamber from the Senate. Assemblyman Goedhart reported that the paper was still warm when the […]
Promise Breakers
Of the six GOP state legislators who voted for the tax hike yesterday, four have consistently refused to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge: Sens. Raggio, Rhoads, Nolan, and Townsend.
About Those Secret “Core Group” Meetings
The “core group” of “elite” legislators who began meeting privately to discuss the budget all the way back in January have regularly claimed that there was no discussion of tax hikes in those secret meetings.
Keep Veto Override Hope Alive
On Friday, the Senate voted for the final leg of the billion dollar Raggio Tax Hike, 17-4, including five of the nine GOP votes. The bill now goes to the governor for his veto – and will then come back to the Legislature for a vote to either override the veto or sustain it.
Republicans Who Spend Too Much
AB 562 was approved in the Assembly on Thursday by a vote of 34-7. The bill increases government spending by about $700 million dollars over and above what Gov. Jim Gibbons proposed last January, and more than a billion dollars over and above what the Economic Forum projects the state will take in via existing […]
Nanny-Staters Use Cancer Victims
Earlier this session, the Legislature considered a bill which would make wearing a seat belt a “primary” offense. Janine Hansen of Nevada Eagle Forum explains what that means:
How Low Will They Go to Raise Taxes?
Threats, intimidation, secrecy, dead of night legislating, and changing the rules in the middle of the game. These are the lengths Democrats have sunk to in their effort to pass a billion tax hike.
